BACK TO BASICS: New Product Names
Product names carry a little more weight than you think. Choosing a product name may seem like an easy last-step before launching, but there are a few things to consider before making a decision. The key to naming products is keeping your brand relevant and your product memorable. Product names should be attention grabbing, as simple or complex as they may be—they have to stand out. It can also help if the name describes either: what it does, why it’s better or how to use it.
In other words: be sure it says what it does and does what it says.
When local restauranteur and Mardi Gras enthusiast Will Samuels planned to create a one-stop-shop for the tastiest king cakes in New Orleans, the name met all three requirements: King Cake Hub. The name rolls off the tongue and people can’t wait to tell their friends about it. And with King Cake being a center-piece in New Orleans for Mardi Gras, how could a “hub” not be the topic of conversation?
